There are many benefits to a plantbased diet, on both a small and large scale. For one, eating plantbased has been linked to a reduced risk of many serious health issues, including heart disease, cancer, and Type 2 Diabetes. Furthermore, plantbased diets are good for the environment, protecting the lives of animals and reducing the agricultural industry’s carbon footprint. Now, we know it’s not realistic to say that every person should, will, or can consume an entirely plantbased diet. But…

What would happen if for just one month out of the year, a significant number of people decided to go plantbased?

Introducing Veganuary! A movement in which people pledge to eat plantbased for the entire month of January (and beyond if they’d like!) in order to encourage more plantbased eating throughout the world and to influence both individuals and businesses. The Veganuary Challenge started in 2014 in the U.K. by a non-profit organization, with the mission to “create a global mass movement championing compassionate food choices, with the aim of ending mass farming, protecting the planet, and improving human health.” Each year, they encourage and inspire people and businesses to go vegan for a month, and they have had great success in doing so. In just January of 2021 alone:

  • Over 580,000 people took the pledge
  • People from 209 countries and territories participated
  • Over 825 new vegan menus and products were launched in support of Veganuary 2021
  • 98% of participants said they would recommend Veganuary to a friend

That’s right… Veganuary is making an impact. It has directly influenced the lifestyle and health of millions of people, driven corporate change, and aided the environment.

And you can be a part of this movement. If you’re looking to try out a plantbased diet, whether it be for health, ethical, or environmental reasons, this is your sign to do so. Join the hundreds of thousands of people who have turned the Veganuary pledge into a year-long resolution. January may be almost over, but the need for more people to go plantbased certainly isn’t. If you’re interested in taking the pledge, you can head to the Veganuary website, and be sure to spread the Veganuary message by sharing this post with a friend or family member!
