15-year-old plantbased activist, Genesis Butler, is a leading voice of the up-and-coming generation. She is pleading for people of all ages to make a change in their diets, so that kids like her can grow up and thrive on a healthy planet that honors the lives of animals and nature. Butler became a fully plantbased eater at the ripe age of 6, and at only 10 years old, became one of the youngest people to ever give a Ted Talk. In her Ted Talk, titled “A 10-year old’s vision for healing the planet,” Butler talks about her choice to go vegan at such a young age, her reasoning for doing so, the impact that the meat and dairy industries have on the planet, and why adults have the responsibility to eat plantbased in order to protect the planet for future generations.
This is Genesis Butler’s story, along with what she is doing now to spread the plantbased message, and help the earth and animals that she loves. The Genesis of This 15-Year-Old’s Vegan Activism
In her Ted Talk, Butler shares that as a 3-year-old, her favorite food was chicken nuggets. One day, while eating her beloved chicken nuggets, she asked her Mom, “where do these come from?” After learning that humans killed animals for food, she says that she and her Mom both stopped eating meat that night. Similarly, soon after giving up meat, Butler asked her Mom where milk came from. When her mom told her that it came from mother cows, Butler pointed out that this was no different than a human mother being forced to give up her breastmilk – Butler then stopped consuming milk and dairy products, and became fully vegan.
Shortly after switching to a vegan diet at a remarkably young age, Butler’s entire family joined her. Since then, she has become a voice of her generation, advocating for plantbased eating in order to bring justice for lives of innocent animals, and to put a halt to the detrimental damage we are doing to our planet by eating animal-derived products.
What Genesis Is Up To Now
Presently, Genesis Butler is 15 years old, and since her Ted Talk, has only gotten more involved in the plantbased movement. On her website, she describes herself as “an environmental and animal rights activist, a vegan, and a friend to all animals.” And we would say that this is quite the understatement when summing up her accomplishments. Within the past 5 years, she has gone on to win multiple awards for her activism, has been featured on an episode of Marvel’s Hero Project by Disney+, and is currently leading the Youth Climate Save Movement, which is the first youth-led environmental organization that gives young voices a platform to fight for a change in the animal agricultural industry. Butler has also worked with dozens of non-profit organizations in support of plantbased eating, and is an ambassador for Earth Day’s Foodprints for The Future, working with other young activists to promote plantbased eating in the face of climate change.
Butler states that she is “vegan for the animals, because they deserve to live in peace just like we do.” In only her first 15 years of life, she has made a resounding impact in the environmentalist and animal rights movements, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
