Frozen Staples

We never understood why freezers are always so much smaller than refrigerators. On hectic weekdays and lazy Sundays, we rely on our freezers to provide sustenance by way of dairy-free pizzas, veggies, and other staple items. It’s also a place to store the remnants of our dairy-free pizzas, batch-cooked sauces, half-eaten vegan cookies, and other delights that may spoil after a few days in the fridge. There’s no shame in the freezer diet—especially when it’s stocked with organic, plant-based finds. From the Pizza Plant dairy-free pizza to non-dairy frozen desserts, here are five staple items to stuff into your (much too small) freezer.

1. The Pizza Plant Dairy-Free Pizza

Yes, we are stating the obvious. If you don’t have a lime green The Pizza Plant box in your freezer, it’s time to place your order (or run to Whole Foods). We offer two tantalizing specials loaded with dairy-free mozzarella and vegan meaty toppings—the slightly spicy, sausage-covered Salsiccia Italiano and the classic pepperoni-coated Everything But the Hog. Make sure you never run out—get both!

2. Frozen Vegetables

Don’t knock frozen veggies—they’re just as nutrient-dense as the fresh variety, but they keep infinitely longer. We like to roast frozen broccoli, peppers, or eggplant and use it as a topping for our dairy-free pizzas. When there’s vegan mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and a toothsome crust underneath, veggies are way more appealing.

3. Frozen Fruit

Looking for a healthy dessert to balance out that entire dairy-free pizza you just devoured? Blend up frozen fruit. Cherries and bananas work particularly well in this application. You don’t need any liquid—just a high-speed blender—and you’ll have a soft-serve-like sweet treat (aka “nice cream”) in just a few minutes.

4. Dairy-Free Ice Cream

Pizza and ice cream complement each other like falafel and tahini (you thought we were going to say peanut butter and jelly, right? Nope). Most mainstream brands now offer a range of dairy-free flavors including Ben & Jerry’s, Haagen Daz, and even boutique brands like Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and Cool Haus. Of course, as an exclusively dairy-free pizza company, we also love supporting other dairy-free small businesses as well. So, if you see a pint of Eclipse or Nada Moo on the shelf, grab it. You can’t go wrong flavor-wise, they’re all good.

5. Dairy-Free Whipped Cream

Obviously, if you have dairy-free ice cream, whipped cream is a necessity. However, we’ve used a tub of dairy-free whip to top a number of treats—from instant pudding to that fruit-based soft-serve we mentioned above. When in doubt, add whip!
