It’s officially summer! And you know what that means – Independence Day is right around the corner. Time for lots of sun, time with family and friends, honoring our country, and (the best part) lots of food! We’re going to take a wild guess here and say that your 4th of July plans probably include some sort of barbecuing. Whether you’re hosting your own barbecue party or attending a friend or family member’s, today we’re letting you in on everything you’ll need for an amazing, fully plantbased 4th of July barbecue. Whip all of these dishes up to be deemed as the best plantbased host, or bring a couple of them to the party like the shining-star guest you are!

The easiest way to whip up a plantbased meal on the 4th of July? With The Pizza Plant, of course! Our plantbased pizzas are scratch-made, 100% plantbased, and tastier than ever. They come fully pre-made and ready to pop in the oven. Yep, no prep time required. Grab a few online or at your local grocery store for the 4th of July! You (and whoever else is lucky enough to snack on them) will be glad you did!

Here are all the things you’ll need for a stellar plantbased 4th of July barbecue:

  1. Plantbased burgers and sausages

No need to skip out on the whole point of a barbecue! Simply throw some plantbased burgers and sausages on the grill and enjoy a classic Independence Day burger or hotdog. For a plantbased burger patty, try these from Beyond Burger or these from Impossible Foods. Both Beyond Burger and Impossible Foods also carry delicious plantbased sausages, and we also love these sausages from Field Roast.

  1. Fruit and veggie platters

Okay, we know – these are typical vegan foods! But after a long day in the sun, nothing tastes better than some fresh watermelon or a cold veggie dipped in vegan ranch. You can also add unconventional ingredients to your platter, such as plantbased cheese or sweets! Better yet, to make these platters less “boring,” you can play with their arrangement to match a 4th of July theme. 1. Vegan s’mores

Did you really think we could make this list without including plantbased dessert? Think again! Did you also think that when you became a vegan you’d have to give up s’mores? Think again, again. Although it’s not the easiest thing to accomplish because most graham crackers contain honey or milk and most marshmallows contain gelatin, it is definitely possible to make a vegan version of s’mores. Here’s how! You can either make your own vegan graham crackers or use a different type of cracker like Saltines. You can find vegan marshmallows in a few places, one of them being Trader Joe’s. Lastly, purchase dark chocolate that doesn’t contain milk – and voilà! You have all the necessary ingredients to make a deliciously ooey-gooey s’more at the firepit on the 4th.

  1. All the classic 4th of July foods that are plantbased by nature

It may seem a bit overwhelming to fully transform every 4th of July dish into a plantbased version. So, we’re going to let you in on a little secret – there are lots of classic barbecue dishes that are naturally vegan or can easily be made vegan. Make a classic vegan salad as a go-to side for all the barbecue atendeeds. Grill up some corn on the cob and slather it in vegan butter. For beverages, make a homemade lemonade and of course, load the cooler up with beers (which are also vegan-friendly by the way!) And lastly, don’t be afraid to step out of the “norm” when it comes to 4th of July foods. Feel free to whip up dishes that surprise and wow the crowd!
