Organic Pizza and Wine
Peanut butter and jelly. Avocado and toast. Ben and Jerry. All are perfect pairings. Among these classic combinations, we must advocate for organic pizza and wine. A nice vegan red (or even rosé!) excellently compliments a full-bodied pizza, but certain wines work better with certain pizzas. Not Your Grandma’s
The Pizza Plant’s classic margarita-style pizza is just like Nonna’s—but better (sorry, Nonna). Our kitchen only uses organic, plant-based ingredients from the wheat flour crust to the meaty toppings. In fact, we were the first USDA certified organic frozen pizza to debut at Whole Foods! It’s only natural to pair our organic vegan pizza with organic vegan wine.
This simple yet excellent pizza pie is made with bright marinara sauce and ultra creamy plant-based mozzarella cheese. The bold yet straightforward flavor profile lends itself well to a wine that is low in tannins, such as a GSM blend (also known as Côtes du Rhône blend). When it comes to organic pizza, you actually want to pair high acidity with high acidity (a low-acidity wine would taste flat when compared to a highly acidic pizza sauce). Pro tip: you can check to see if your wine is vegan at barnivore.com.
This organic pizza piles on the vegetables—think of it as a salad on pizza crust! From briny kalamata olives to bright bell peppers and sharp shaved red onion, we opted for veggies that pack the most flavor. When paired with our base marinara sauce and creamy cashew-based mozzarella, the Veggie Pals calls for a bold red that will hold its own against all these phenomenal flavors. However, you have options. A Sauvignon Blanc is equally bright and acidic, and it’s a nice change to the default red. Dry rosé also pairs well with our veggie-loaded organic pizza, and it's totally trending in the celebrity wine world—just check out Cameron Diaz’ wine line, Avaline!
Everything But the Hog
Crust. Sauce. Cheese. Meat. The Pizza Plant’s take on the beloved pepperoni in organic, vegan form. While wine and pepperoni isn’t a completely obvious combination, trust us, it works. Think of it as enjoying a glass of red with a (vegan) meat-and-cheese charcuterie board. Makes sense now? Great. Look for a bold red to compliment the spiciness of our organic plant-based pepperoni, such as a medium-bodied Syrah or Italian Chianti.
Sausage and wine may not sound like the perfect couple, but salsiccia and wine? Bingo. Our wheat-based sausage and mozzarella organic pizza is a little bit extra and deserves to be paired with an excellent glass of organic wine (and probably a glug of Italian olive oil, because why not?). Enhance this meaty vegan pie with a red wine that has body and high acidity such as a grenache, malbec, or cabernet sauvignon. Raise a glass and say cheers, or saluti, to the perfect organic pizza and wine pairing!
