Going plantbased, becoming a vegan, cutting out animal products: what does it all mean, and why are so many people doing it?
Plantbased, or vegan, diets have become incredibly popular in our modern world– and there’s good reasons for it. When people become vegan, they cut out all animal products from their diet and/or lifestyle entirely, and many vegans will say that it’s the best decision they ever made. Whether it be for health, ethical, or preference reasons, there are more benefits of going plantbased than meet the eye.
Here are 3 benefits to pursuing a plantbased life:
- Following a plantbased diet is great for your health and overall wellbeing.
Eating plantbased can benefit your health in a variety of ways, and there are tons of scientific studies that have supported this. Sticking to a plantbased diet may lower blood pressure, promote heart and brain health, prevent Type 2 Diabetes, lower the risk of cancer, and improve cholesterol. Furthermore, studies have shown that plantbased diets may even increase your overall lifespan.
With a healthier body, comes a healthier mind. Eating whole, plantbased foods can make you feel good from the inside out, leading to a better quality of life.
- The planet will thank you.
A vegan diet not only benefits your own health, but the environments too.
By eating plantbased foods rather than animal products, you directly help the planet in many ways, including by reducing your carbon footprint, conserving water, promoting cleaner air, and protecting animals and their habitats. Livestock production in the meat and dairy industries is one of the leading causes of climate change, and the only way to combat this is for humans to stop purchasing and consuming as many animal products as possible.
Whether you decide to become plantbased for personal or ethical reasons, you will, without a doubt, be doing an amazing service for the planet.
- Your favorite meals are still available to you… Now they’re just better for both you and the planet!
Becoming entirely plantbased can feel like a daunting task, especially when you think that it involves giving up your favorite foods. Here’s the good news: being vegan doesn’t have to mean eating a bowl of fruit for breakfast, a spinach salad for lunch, and a bowl of rice and veggies for dinner. What it does mean is releasing your body and the planet from the harm that the meat and dairy industries cause and substituting your favorite foods for plantbased versions. And trust us, there’s more delicious, vegan versions of your favorite foods than you could ever imagine.
Here’s a few examples:
We couldn’t even begin to list the number of vegan ice creams that are currently on the market, and many of them are so good that you wouldn’t even know they’re dairy free. Some of our favorites are Ben and Jerry’s Non-Dairy Pints, Trader Joe’s Hold the Dairy! Mini Coconut Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert Cones, and CoolHaus Dairy Free Sammies. Hamburgers are an American delicacy. You know and love them, and we’re right there with you! There are a plethora of vegan burgers out there to try. For a taste that’s nearly identical to a real burger patty, try Beyond Meat or Impossible Foods plantbased burgers. For even healthier burgers that taste more like the plants they’re made from, try Dr. Praeger’s Super Greens Veggie Burgers or Morning Star Spicy Black Bean Burgers.
